This program was created as an activity for a friend’s birthday, as a sort of experimental combination of computer game and real-world scavenger hunt (inspired by ARGs like ilovebees and Cicada 3301). Due to the nature of ARGs, it was a lot of fun to design this game to purposefully break the fourth wall over and over again (cues very much taken from Toby Fox’s Undertale, which was my friend’s favorite game at the time). Built over Python and using mostly stdout to interface with the player, features included a fully implemented battle system, a psuedo-dynamic soundtrack, and a very simple save state mechanism using Pickle. In entirety, the game took my friend about four hours to complete.
