Dissecting the Transect

(Spring 2021) This layout was created as part of a class design competition (one in a series of “battle royales” featuring 3-5 students competing to create the best design for a given prompt in just 40 minutes or less). For this competition, students were prompted to create an informational page or pamphlet that was designed to communicate basic ideas about the urban planning concept of the “transect.” Students were provided with a basic 3D model as starting material, but had to customize it using Rhino and fit it into a layout of their own creation in Adobe Illustrator all within the 40-minute time limit. Students competed live on Twitch.tv for an audience of peers as well as a guest critic who gave live commentary and judged the final designs. This competition was considered the final and most difficult event in the series, featuring winners from the previous rounds of competition.
